Plan the next stage of the SAP landscape

Growth may require optimisation of the current Business One configuration and processes, broader Public Edition adoption, a Private Edition upgrade or a different ERP path. MTC identifies the relevant constraints and target operating model before recommending the change.

Options for extending or changing the SAP landscape

The appropriate option depends on the current product, the business change, the target architecture and the controls that must remain stable.

Expand Business One

Add users, companies, reporting and process controls while the product still fits the operating model.

Extend or modernise B1

Review integrations, industry extensions, database choice and managed hosting against a clear business need.

Broaden Public Edition scope

Extend the standardised cloud model to more entities and processes without recreating local exceptions.

Govern Public Edition releases

Maintain fit-to-standard decisions, test integrations and keep extensions clean as the service evolves.

Evolve Private Edition

Plan upgrades, selective redesign and clean-core work around the current landscape and business calendar.

Reassess product fit

Assess whether the current ERP should be optimised or whether another SAP path better fits the operating and support requirements.

For product re-selection or a database change, use the ERP selection guide and HANA vs SQL.

Base the decision on operating evidence

MTC reviews the process constraint, data, controls and expected business result before recommending optimisation, extension, migration or no immediate system change.

  • MTC begins with the operating constraint, current architecture and expected business outcome. The appropriate response may be to improve the use of the current system.
  • Where configuration or a limited extension can meet the requirement, MTC documents that option alongside a wider upgrade or migration.
  • When change is justified, the scope is aligned with business growth, control requirements, architecture and the available change capacity.

ERP architecture for entity, group and regional operations

The ERP decision changes as a Singapore entity becomes part of a larger regional or global operating model.

  • For a single Singapore entity, establish reliable finance and operational control with a proportionate system scope.
  • For a growing group, define which processes and data should be standard across entities and which requirements remain local.
  • For a regional or global operation, manage group architecture, integrations, controls, releases and change through a coordinated programme.

Growth & Upgrade FAQ

How do we know if we need an upgrade?

The assessment defines the operating constraint and expected result. If the current system can meet the requirement through better use or a limited extension, MTC compares that option with the cost, risk and benefit of an upgrade.

When should we move from Business One to S/4HANA?

Consider it when group structure, process complexity, controls or integration requirements no longer fit Business One economically. The decision still needs a product-fit assessment because SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition and SAP Cloud ERP Private serve different operating and transition needs.

Should we move B1 onto HANA?

HANA provides in-memory processing and HANA-specific analytics, while SQL may fit an established Microsoft operating model. The decision depends on data volume, workload, reporting requirements, compatibility and the future system plan; see the HANA vs SQL guide.

How does SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition support business expansion?

Growth usually means extending a standard model with assigned process and data ownership to more scope or entities, while testing integrations and configured extensions through regular releases. The programme combines adoption, release control and application management rather than simply adding licences.

What does an upgrade mean for SAP Cloud ERP Private?

It can include a release upgrade, technical remediation, selective process redesign or clean-core work. The programme definition uses evidence from the current system, custom code, interfaces, business constraints and target outcome.

Assess the next change before committing investment

Submit the operating constraint and current landscape. MTC will identify the practical options, expected value, dependencies and investment range for management review.
